COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo (April 23, 2018) -- The city that hosted Super Bowl LII in 2018 is set to welcome the nation’s taekwondo elite in 2019. USA Taekwondo and Minneapolis, Minnesota, are teaming up to host the 2019 USA Taekwondo National Championships, June 28 through July 4.

“After a big success with the Super Bowl this year, Minneapolis has catapulted itself into becoming one of the leading sporting cities in the U.S., and we couldn’t be more excited to be taking the 2019 USA Taekwondo National Championships there," USA Taekwondo Events Director Jeanna Salgado said. "It’s a city that has made huge improvements to its infrastructure and visitor attractiveness, and we know our athletes, coaches and parents are going to have a great week there. Our partners Group Housing have already secured great rates for our attendees, so book early to grab yourself the best rates!”

The last time the North Star State hosted a USA Taekwondo national-level event was back in 2002 when the Metrodome housed the Junior Olympic Taekwondo Championships. Next year’s event will take place in the Minneapolis Convention Center.

"We are extremely pleased to host next year's USA Taekwondo Championships," said Executive Director of Sports Minneapolis and Meet Minneapolis President and CEO Melvin Tennant. "The location and versatility of the Minneapolis Convention Center is well-suited for this competition. We want to be known as a world-class sports destination and are looking forward to showing off our vibrant sports-loving city to the thousands of elite-level athletes and visitors who will be attending."

Nearly 4,000 competitors are expected to take part in the weeklong event.

Information on how to book hotels at the best rates and the detailed event schedule will be published on the USA Taekwondo website as soon as they are finalized.
