Keith Ferguson to Leave at End of September

Sept. 05, 2017, 3:14 p.m. (ET)

Colorado Springs, Colorado (September 5, 2017) - USA Taekwondo today announced a planned and orderly transition in its management.  By mutual agreement, Executive Director Keith Ferguson will be leaving the organization to pursue other opportunities, and Managing Director of Operations Steve McNally will assume the role of Acting Executive Director effective immediately. Mr. Ferguson will remain with USA Taekwondo through September 30, 2017 in the role of Senior Advisor to the Executive Director in order to help manage this transition.

The USA Taekwondo Board of Directors has established an Executive Transition and Search Committee whose mandate is to provide Messrs. McNally and Ferguson assistance in this process, provide Mr. McNally guidance as to his goals as Acting Executive Director and to consider and lead the process of transitioning the organization to a permanent Executive Director. That committee will also conduct a search for potential candidates to fill the position of USA Taekwondo Secretary General, a role that is responsible for all of the organization’s international relations, including with the World Taekwondo Federation and other external governing bodies, and would report to the Executive Director.

USA Taekwondo is a stronger and more effective organization today than it was two years ago, and that is due in large part to the leadership Keith has provided,” said USA Taekwondo Board Chair Don Reynolds. “He has guided the organization through the most comprehensive High Performance planning process undertaken in many years, and has renewed the organization’s commitment to international relations, strengthening the U.S. position on the global taekwondo stage through increased engagement and partnership with the Pan American Taekwondo Union, World Taekwondo and many other major players in the international taekwondo community.

Ferguson said: “It has been a real honor to serve the taekwondo community and I feel proud to be leaving the organization in a much better place than I found it. I’ve met some great people - colleagues and constituents - and made many memories which I will treasure.

The building blocks are all in place for the next person to take it on to great things, with many of the problems that have held the organization back for decades now resolved - and make no mistake, these were problems that were painful and had needed to be faced head on for a long time before I arrived.

We got that done, and the future is so much brighter as a consequence.

As much as the job has been rewarding it has also been challenging, and I felt it was the right time to move on to new opportunities and adventures. I am greatly anticipating what comes next, both for me personally and for all at USA Taekwondo - I wish each and every one of you much success in the future. I remain committed to doing all I can in support of USA Taekwondo and the athletes it serves.
