USA Taekwondo invites applications for Secretary General position

Colorado Springs, Colorado (October 17, 2017) - USA Taekwondo is today opening the application process for the position of Secretary General of the U.S. National Governing Body.

Secretary General is a key role within the organization, responsible for representing USA Taekwondo positions before the International Olympic Committee, International Sports Organizations, Taekwondo Organizations and other international audiences.

Executive Director Steve McNally said: “We are looking for the right blend of integrity and experience in an individual who carries the respect of the community. Both the Board of Directors and I believe this position to be of great importance to the continued rejuvenation of USA Taekwondo as a major world power in taekwondo, and we are excited to see the calibre of candidates who apply.”

Job Description
USA Taekwondo Secretary General
Reports to: CEO/Executive Director

 
Job Summary
The Secretary General will be responsible for representing USA Taekwondo positions before the International Olympic Committee, International Sports Organizations and Taekwondo Organizations and other international audiences. The Secretary General will report to and work in collaboration with the Executive Director. Working with the Regulatory Affairs team, the Secretary General will help develop and advocate USA Taekwondo positions on international issues. The Secretary General will work closely with all USA Taekwondo teams and the USA Taekwondo Board of Directors to coordinate international messaging and outreach, including with the Communications team on press statements and media interactions.
 
Essential Job Functions

  • Represent the organization before and interact with World Taekwondo, Pan American Taekwondo, International Olympic Committee and all other Taekwondo Associations/Organizations
  • Develop with the USA Taekwondo Executive Director regular reports to the USA Taekwondo Board of Directors
  • Participate in and represent USA Taekwondo positions on international advisory committees.
  • Monitor international issues relating to Olympic Sport and international taekwondo. Maintain and foster relationships with WT, PATU, MNA’s and Continental Unions.
  • Attend and assist in coordinating meetings of, as well as monitor activities and report on other international events.
  • Assist in managing and coordinating the efforts of USA Taekwondo’s International Affairs consultants
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Education, Skills and Experience Requirements

  • Commitment to USA Taekwondo’s mission
  • Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred, ideally in international business or international relations, advanced degree preferred
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience
  • A solid understanding of international Olympic Sport issues
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Self-starter who excels in fast-paced environment
  • Ability to travel both nationally and internationally, up to 60% of the time
