U.S. Open Concludes in Las Vegas

(February 8, 2017) -- The 26th U.S. Open Taekwondo Championships came to a close last week in Las Vegas with American athletes capturing 10 medals in the senior sparring divisions. 2012 Olympic bronze medalist Paige McPherson won gold in the female -67kg division, while fellow American Cheyenne Lewis took the title in the female -62kg class.

Eight Americans walked away with bronze medals in the senior division, including 2016 Olympic bronze medalist Jackie Galloway in the female +73kg division, and her Olympic teammate Stephen Lambdin in the male +87kg competition.

Other U.S. bronze medalists included Niklas Poland (male -74kg), Danielle Wassell (female -46kg), Madelynn Gorman-Shore (female -73kg), Connor Wilson (male -80kg), Bernardo Norzagaray-Garcia (male -58kg) and Ara White (female -57kg).

The G-2-rated event attracted over 2,000 competitors from 63 countries.
