2017 Nationals BEGINS TOMORROW!

USA Taekwondo is excited to bring the 2017 National Championships to the Cobo Center in Detroit on June 29 - July 6, 2017.

The world's largest Taekwondo tournament will return to the midwest's Motor City for the first time in 9 years, and following one of the most successful Nationals ever in 2016 we are expecting to raise the bar even higher this year!

Brentwood Digital,  the official photographer for Nationals announces exciting news.  Club Photography Packages will be available this year for photography and or video services at Nationals.   Your club will have an assigned photographer for the day to cover the competition for your club athletes at discounted club rates.  There are no restrictions to the number of athletes included in the coverage as long as the athlete is part of the club.  A designated coach or parent will delegate the assignments for the photographer as to which athletes to cover.   You can also reserve a photographer for individual coverage of your Forms routine and Sparring matches.  Remember, we have the best seats in the house as our photographers shoot from the competition floor.

USA Taekwondo's National Championships is the largest taekwondo event in the world, historically featuring over 4000 athletes, close to 1000 coaches, 827 different divisions and thousands of matches across many disciplines including, sparring (both able bodied and para), poomsae, board breaking and demo teams. This year's event also serves as National Team Trials for cadet and junior sparring, and poomsae - it's going to be incredible! The schedule has been designed to maximize athlete's opportunity to compete, both in multiple disciplines and other events, and we look forward to seeing you all in Detroit this summer!

Detroit is a city in the midst of a comeback and is more appealing now than it has been in decades. Its accessibility and affordability along with top-of-the-line sports, entertainment, gaming, retail, dining and nightlife venues, are making Detroit a premiere destination once again.

Over the last few years, the city has amassed more than $11 billion in investments and has welcomed 15,000 new employees to downtown. A new $1.2 billion Little Caesars Arena and The Detroit District which will encompass 50 blocks of thriving businesses, parks, restaurants, bars and event destinations. The cornerstone is the arena, the new home of the Detroit Red Wings, which is set to open in fall 2017.

The region is also properly expanding its public transportation infrastructure, adding a 3.3-mile circulating streetcar called the QLine. Expected to be operational in spring 2017 and have 20 stations serving 12 stops, this $140 million streetcar will complement the elevated and automated light-rail system already running downtown called the Detroit People Mover.

The vibrant streetscape offers hundreds of restaurants, bars, hotels, theater venues, and a growing array of retail shops. Nearly 100 new restaurants, breweries, distilleries and coffee shops have opened in Detroit in the past three years.

Detroit Metro Airport (DTW), a Delta hub, welcomes more than 33 million passengers a year and averages nearly 1,050 takeoffs/landings a day. All major domestic airlines, five low-cost carriers and several international carriers offer service from the airport.
