(November 22, 2016) -- The 11th WTF World Taekwondo Junior Championships came to a close on Sunday in Burnaby, Canada, with Team USA sending its final four athletes into the ring.
Luis Espinosa won his opening match of the day in the men's +78kg division, defeating Viktoras Pilavas of Cyprus by a score of 8-6. In the round of 16, Espinosa would lose a 12-3 decision to Mexico's Daniel Zuniga. Russia's Georgii Tandelov took the gold medal over Germany's Aleksandar Keselj, while Ukraine's Andrei Garbar and Brazil's Leandro Souza won the bronze medals.
In the men's -78kg class, Alasan Ann dropped his opening match to eventual bronze medalist Yan Bai of China, 4-1. The gold medal went to Slovenia's Partik Divkovic, the silver medal to Turkey's Hasan Can Lazoglu, and the other bronze medal to Korea's Ho-Hyun Chun.
Camryn Henry was eliminated in the round of 16 of the women's -68kg division after a 3-0 loss to Norway's Eliza Frazier Haugen. Great Britain's Lauren Williams took the gold medal, Russia's Polina Khan earned the silver, and the bronze medals went to Croatia's Kristina Cerina and Korea's Mi-Na Myeong.
In the women's +68kg class, Madelynn Gorman-Shore lost by a 10-7 score to eventual silver medalist Yun Ci Pan of Chinese Taipei in the round of 16. Pan lost the final to Iran's Zahra Pouresmaeil. Bronze medals were earned by Great Britain's Rebecca McGowan and Korea's Do-Hee Yoon.
Team USA's lone medal of the five-day competition came on Friday when Joshua Liu captured a bronze medal in the men's -63kg division.
