2016 Poomsae Pan Am Championships Information

March 25, 2016, 2:24 p.m. (ET)

Due to the limited time available before the 2016 Pan American Taekwondo Championships and the late confirmation on the inclusion of poomsae at this event, it is not feasible to hold a poomsae team trials for that event.

Therefore, the top 4 finishers from the 2015 US National Poomsae Team Trials will be given the opportunity to apply for the 2016 Pan Am Championships in the same divisions that they competed in at the 2015 Team Trials, and will be given the following priorities.

Note that in the past, PATU has permitted multiple contestants per division to compete, in some cases also separated by rank. The current rules to be used by PATU at this event have not yet been announced and are not known yet. Thus, applicants will be given the following priority on any available spots:

1) 1st Place finisher at 2015 team trials
2) 2nd Place finisher at 2015 team trials
3) 3rd Place finisher at 2015 team trials
4) 4th Place finisher at 2015 team trials

If after all of these top 4 finishers have responded, there are still open slots, then the top 4 team trials finishers who have aged up into a new division will be considered. Therefore, secondary priority will be given to the following athletes in this order of priority:

5) 1st Place finisher at 2015 team trials in lower age division who has aged up
6) 2nd Place finisher at 2015 team trials in lower age division who has aged up
7) 3rd Place finisher at 2015 team trials in lower age division who has aged up
8) 4th Place finisher at 2015 team trials in lower age division who has aged up

If vacant positions remain after all of these 8 eligible competitors have accepted, then these positions will go uncontested.

If you would like to apply for a spot on the 2016 Pan Am Championship Poomsae Team, applications from eligible athletes will be accepted by sending the following information by email to the USA Taekwondo High Performance Director at Patrick.Wentland@usa-taekwondo.us

Applications must arrive no later than close of business on April 15 to be considered.
