2015 Future Starts Camp August 2-8

The 2015 Future Stars Camp will be held at the OTC from August 2-8, 2015.

The Future Stars Camp is a qualification event. The first place finisher in the World-Class Cadet and in the Junior Black-Belt sparring divisions at the 2015 National Championships qualify for this camp.

Cost: $299, which covers all training sessions, room & board at the OTC (this does NOT cover transportation to the training camp which will be the responsibility of the athlete)

Attendees should plan to arrive between 12pm – 7pm on Aug 2 and depart between 6am – 12pm on August 8.

Who qualifies for the Future Stars Camp?

1st place winners in the Cadet World-Class sparring division and in the Junior Black-Belt sparring division at the 2015 USA Taekwondo National Championships are qualified for this camp. In the event that a 1st place winner declines the invitation, the position will be given to the 2nd place finisher. Should the 2nd place finisher decline the invitation, the position will be given to the 3rd place finisher who lost to the 1st place finisher. If they decline, the position will be given to the 3rd place finisher who lost to the 2nd place finisher. Should the final 3rd place finisher decline, the position will remain vacant. 1st place finishers must register for the Future Stars Camp via Hangastar by July 17, 2015.

 

My athlete won the Cadet or Junior red/blue/green/yellow belt division at the National Championships. Can my athlete attend?
The Future Stars Camp is only offered to the winners of the Cadet World-Class and the Junior Black-Belt sparring divisions only.

 

My athlete won the Poomsae/Board Breaking competition. Can my athlete attend?

The Future Stars camp is a sparring camp. Only the winners of the Cadet World-Class and the Junior Black-Belt Sparring divisions at the 2015 USAT National Championships are eligible to attend.

 

What does the registration fee cover?

The cost for the camp is $299 per athlete, which includes ground transportation to and from the Colorado Springs Airport, lodging, meals, and all training/education sessions. This year’s camp features movement analysis from Dr. Jason Han, PT.

 

Who will be coaching at this camp?

USA Taekwondo is currently confirming the coach staff. Primary coaches for the camp are selected from the National Team Coaching Pool.

 

My athlete qualified for this camp. Can I coach at the camp?

Personal coaches may access the OTC for $15/day. The cost covers keyed access to the OTC, the dojang, and the meeting rooms and allows coaches to access the floor and interact with athletes. Personal coaches will not be permitted to access the dining hall or the dorms. Personal coaches should register via the Hangastar registration system. Registration for personal coaches ends on July . Please note that personal coaches are not considered camp coaches and should only interact with their own athletes during the camp.

 

My child qualified for this camp. Can I come and watch?

The Olympic Training Center is a secured environment. Because of this, USAT will no longer invite spectators to attend the camp without being registered as facility users with the OTC. Family and friends who wish to attend the camp can register to do so for $15/day. This fee covers key access to the OTC, the dojang, and the meeting rooms for the duration of the camp. What is the schedule for the camp?

Attendees should arrive before 7pm on August 2, and depart before 12:00 pm on August 8.  

Daily Training Schedule:

7:00 am – 8:00 am: Breakfast

8:00 am – 12:00 pm: Training

12:00 pm – 1:00 pm: Lunch

1:00 pm – 3:30 pm: Training

3:30 pm – 5:00 pm: Break

5:00 pm – 6:00 pm: Education session

6:00 pm – 7:00 pm: Dinner

7:00 pm – 9:00 pm: Team Meeting

9:00 pm – 10:00 pm: Break

Lights out at 10:00pm

 

Athletes should plan on an intense amount of training. Breaks will be provided during the training sessions.

 

My athlete did not qualify for the camp, but wants to attend. Can my athlete apply for a waiver to attend the camp?

No. The Future Stars camp is reserved for qualified athletes only. USA Taekwondo hosts a similar camp in June that is open to all black-belt athletes in good standing.

 

Our family will be attending the Future Stars camp. Can my athlete stay off-campus with us?

No. All athletes participating in the Future Stars camp must stay in their assigned rooms on the OTC campus.

 

Our family will be attending the Future Stars camp with our qualified athlete. Will there be time for us to take our child on day-trips or other trips around Colorado Springs?

The breaks that are built into the daily schedule are designed for recovery. We ask that parents allow their children to remain with the camp and attend all training sessions. The Future Stars Camp is designed to give athletes access to elite-level training as well as an understanding of the type of training required to be internationally competitive. For the athlete to get the full experience, the athlete should attend all training and education sessions.
