Elite USAT Athletes to Compete at STA Australian Open

Eleven elite USA Taekwondo athletes are registered to compete this weekend at the 2014 Sports Taekwondo Australia (STA) Australian Open. The international event will take place Aug. 16-17 in Sydney.

The competition will feature many of the top medal contenders for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Participating junior and senior athletes will contend for world ranking points at this G2 event.

In the women’s division, four athletes are slated to represent USAT: Samery Moras (46kg), Rose Charlotte Craig (49kg), Aziza Chambers (53kg) and Sanaz Shahbazi (62kg).

In the men’s division, seven USAT athletes are registered: Logan Gerick (58kg), Jensen Ishida (68kg), Jaysen Ishida (74kg), Steven Lopez (80kg), Thomas Rahimi (80kg), Philip Yun (+87kg) and Stephen Lambdin (+87kg).

USAT members Brian McCutcheon, Jean Lopez and Sang Cha are also registered as coaches for the event.
