US Open and Olympic Team Trials

Reno, Nevada

Feb. 02 - 07, 2016

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Aug. 27, 2015) – The Silver State of Nevada will host the silver anniversary of the prestigious U.S. Open as USA Taekwondo has announced Reno as the site of the 2016 event as well as the site of the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Taekwondo. The international U.S. Open will be held Feb. 3-7, with the U.S. Olympic Team Trials kicking things off on Feb. 2. Both events will be held at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center.

“As the excitement builds for the Olympic year of 2016, we are equally excited to be in Reno for the 25th edition of the ever-growing U.S. Open,” said USA Taekwondo Director of Events Jeanna Mendoza. “Last year’s event in Orlando saw an outstanding international field which included 27 athletes from 15 different nations who are currently in the top-10 of the WTF Olympic rankings. For 2016, we are thrilled to be able to combine the U.S. Olympic Team Trials with the U.S. Open to add even more excitement for competitors and spectators alike.”

The 2015 U.S. Open in Orlando was awarded a G-2 rating by the World Taekwondo Federation and the event hopes to achieve a similar rating for 2016.

“Reno Tahoe USA is excited to welcome the USA Taekwondo U.S. Open, as well as the U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Taekwondo,” said Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority President and CEO Christopher Baum. “The fact that we get to host so many American athletes, who will be competing in Brazil next year, makes it an even greater honor! And, of course, we’re thrilled to welcome other future Olympians from around the world.”
