Gary S. Schlager

Background and Experience

Mr. Schlager has been a commercial real estate professional for more than 25 years and is a principal of two Washington, DC based companies.
His experi
ence includes more than $2 billion in leasing, financing, development, investment and related transactions.

Mr. Schlager began his career in 1989 in the professional services brokerage field and rose to become a Senior Vice President of Transwestern Commercial Services, a national commercial real estate company. In 1997, Mr. Schlager formed West, Lane & Schlager Realty Advisors, LLC (“WLS”), a Washington, DC based brokerage firm which specializes in tenant representation, investment services and strategic planning.

In 1998, Mr. Schlager began purchasing income producing properties for his own account and, shortly thereafter, formed Rock Creek Property Group, LLC (“Rock Creek”). Mr. Schlager co-manages Rock Creek’s day-to-day operations, acquisition, underwriting and development activities in addition to overseeing the company’s asset management and leasing activities portfolio-wide. To date, Rock Creek’s principals have acquired and developed dozens of commercial properties with a capitalized value exceeding $750 million. Their holdings include office buildings, shopping centers, industrial property and multi-family assets primarily located in the Washington, DC Metropolitan Area. Mr. Schlager’s companies employ more than 25 full time professionals.

Education, Professional Affiliations, Community Work and Sporting

Mr. Schlager earned his MBA from George Washington University where he graduated with honors. During his time at George Washington University he concentrated in the areas of real estate development and urban planning. He also holds a BBA in Finance from the Emory University School of Business Administration.

Mr. Schlager is a member of the Urban Land Institute, the International Council of Shopping Centers and the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors. He is a frequent speaker, instructor and panelist within the real estate industry and is actively involved in community and charitable organizations including past positions as a board member for The Woodley House and the Golden Triangle Business Improvement District. Mr. Schlager currently serves on the Board of Directors of USA Table Tennis.

Mr. Schlager is a regular guest professor at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business where he teaches a class in private equity and real estate investing and has also served as a faculty advisor at the University of Maryland’s Executive MBA program where he taught real estate investment and finance. In the summer of 2013, Gary competed in table tennis as a member of Team USA at the 19th World Maccabiah Games in Israel. The Maccabiah Games are the third largest sporting event in the world comprising more than 10,000 athletes from 80 countries.
