USA Table Tennis Announces the Performance Pathway Program for 2021

The Program Aims to Assist Players with their Financial Responsibilities to Compete on the International Stage.

(Colorado Springs, CO – December 10, 2020) – USA Table Tennis (“USATT”), the United States of America’s National Governing Body for the sport of table tennis, today announced the Performance Pathway Program for 2021.  The program was created to support 12 targeted players for 2021 with an effort to help our best players improve through both international and domestic competitions and reduce the financial pressure of being a full-time player. The top four Men's National Team members, four Women's National Team members and four Para National Team athletes will each receive up to $4,000 annually towards travel, entry and hospitality.

Sean O’Neill, USATT High-Performance Director stated, “I am extremely grateful this 2021 High-Performance program was approved by the USATT Board of Directors and allows our team members to compete both at home and abroad with less financial worries. As a former professional player, I am acutely aware of the costs to improve and compete while representing our country.  I believe in our team members and I know when given a chance to play in more competitions they will surprise many with their fight and tenacity.  I am thankful to USATT CEO, Virginia Sung for allocating up to $48,000 to support our national teams as we head toward Tokyo, Paris and Los Angeles and ITTF World Events.”

Tara Profitt added, “As AAC Chair, I was delighted to hear about the Performance Pathway funding for some of our elite athletes. This additional funding will help our athletes obtain additional table tennis resources to help sustain competitive excellence in pursuit of Olympic and Paralympic success which is part of the mission of USATT.”

Jasna Rather, Para Manager shared, “This is a great initiative through which top US Para athletes could receive additional support toward competitions and camps.”

Able-body recipients will be nominated based on the 2021 National Team Trials and include the National Singles Champions which will take place at the 2021 National Championships earning the #1 slot on the 2021 National Team. Four Para members will be selected by the Para HPC.  The US National Team Trials is planned to be held in August 2021.
