HITTA Debut Tournament Puts on Attack vs. Defense Final Display
A great turnout for the first tournament of the Houston International Table Tennis Academy, graciously supported by Jeff Quan and Capital Plastics. Over 70 players were attracted to the high quality new facility in Texas to compete in what turned out to be a great tournament.
The finals saw two of the area's top players go head to head with Li Kewei, the defensive superstar, going up against one of USA's greats Jimmy Butler. With Li combining consistent defense and a world class attacking game it was going to take Butler's A-Game to bring home the match, but it was a result he had achieved before, having beaten Kewei in the 2014 Southern Open final 11-9 in the 7th. The two got stuck straight in, fighting for dominance early in the match. Butler looked to be in reasonable form and the match was certainly no easy task for Li Kewei. However in the 6th set it was Li Kewei who struck home to close out the match and with a 4-2 result, win the title. Congratulations to both finalists and to the participants and finalists of all events, you can see the results below!
