Gustavo Tsuboi (BRA) after beating Kanak Jha (USA) 4-0 in the men’s singles qualficiation: “First 2 games were close and I found it hard to get a good rythem in the match. I had trouble with his service, and I made a lot of mistakes as well as him getting some lucky points.” “In the 3rd set I got my rythem in the match, and managed to cope better with his unpredictable play.” “He is still young and has good potential. He still has a lot to learn and I hope he does not improve too much as it will make our lives tough!”

WU Yue (USA) after beating Yadira Silva (MEX) 4-1 in the womens singles qualification: XVII Pan American Games Quotes – Day 5 Page 2 of 2 “It’s the first time I’ve played Yadira but she’s been to the U.S.Open so my friends knew how she played and they gave me some advice. She takes time to play her strokes but she’s smart, I had to be patient; she had problems with my services, so that gave me a distinct advantage.”

Caroline Kumahara (BRA) after beating Jiaqi Zhang (USA) 4-2 in the women’s singles qualification: “My backhand is my strength and the more the match progressed the more I felt confident returning her service with my backhand. Also the way she plays, the speed at which she plays suited me; I was able to establish a good rhythm, she’s fast, so I tried to play my first attacking stroke with a lot of spin.”
