JUN GAO HIRED AS THE USA TABLE TENNIS NATIONAL COACH
Adding Coach Jun Gao to the National Team brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to allow Team USA to achieve great success in the team’s future endeavors.
(Colorado Springs, CO – December 28, 2020) – USA Table Tennis (“USATT”), the National Governing Body for the sport of table tennis, announced that Jun Gao has accepted the position of National Coach with USA Table Tennis for 2021. Coach Gao is a former 9-time Women’s National Champion, 2-time World Champion, and an Olympic Silver Medalist in the 1992 Olympics. She will help guide Team USA in upcoming national and international events.
“I am honored to join the USATT staff to help our players both at home and abroad reach the podium. I have great confidence in our junior girls and women team members to compete at every level,” stated Coach Gao upon accepting the position.
Coach Gao will provide team support and guidance at national and international competitions, assisting national team members on their training programs, and support the USATT’s coaching program. The addition of Coach Gao is vital for the success of Team USA, and she will have a direct impact on the future of the program. With a focus on individual plans, she will concentrate on year-round development for the team’s success.
“Coach Gao has earned the trust, respect of our national team members and is directly responsible for our women's team qualifying for Tokyo 2020. I am so thrilled that USATT is rewarding her efforts with this position to support our national team members,” shared Sean O’Neill, USATT High-Performance Director.
Coach Gao was inducted into the US Table Tennis Hall of Fame in 2009 and is the California Table Tennis Club owner in Rosemead, CA. She led both US Teams to 5th place finishes at the 2019 World Cup Team Event in Tokyo, Japan, in addition to coaching the US to secure the women’s team spot for the 2020 Olympics.
