USA Table Tennis Announces Athletes’ Advisory Council

USATT’s Freshly Empaneled Seven Member AAC Will Begin Service in January

(Colorado Springs, CO – November 13, 2020) – USA Table Tennis (“USATT”), the National Governing Body for the sport of table tennis, today announced the athletes nominated and appointed to serve in the organization’s seven member Athletes’ Advisory Council (“AAC”). The group, which will begin a four-year term of service on January 1, 2021, is comprised of Sebastian De Francesco, Yijun (Tom) Feng, Pamela Fontaine, Tara Profitt, Barney Reed, Jenson Van Emburgh, and Huijing Wang. The newly empaneled group elected Tara Profitt and Tom Feng to serve in the AAC leadership roles of “First Athlete” and “Second Athlete,” respectively.

“USATT is extremely pleased to welcome this group of athletes to the AAC,” said USATT Chief Executive Officer Virginia Sung. “The AAC performs a number of vital functions related to the protection of the rights of our athletes and the development of our programs. USATT looks forward to working with this group to continue our efforts to improve the lives and performance of all of our American table tennis athletes.”

The mission of the USATT’s AAC is to protect the rights of athletes while fostering communication between USATT and table tennis athletes who are actively engaged in USATT athletic competitions and have represented the United States in international competition. The responsibilities of the AAC include maintaining active communication with the members of the represented athlete pool, USATT’s management and staff, the High Performance Department, and other key stakeholders on important matters impacting athletes’ lives. The AAC also provides an avenue for athletes to voice their concerns, as well as participating in the development of selection procedures for International competition, including the Olympic, Paralympic, Pan American and Parapan American Games.

The First Athlete on the AAC serves as an athlete member on the USATT Board of Directors, as well as serving as USATT’s primary representative on the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee’s Athlete Advisory Committee. The First Athlete also nominates the candidates for athlete representatives on USATT’s Committees.
