2020 Olympic Selection Procedure Update Announced by USA Table Tennis

By USATT | Jan. 28, 2020, 5:27 p.m. (ET)

USATT leadership is pleased to announce that it has amended the selection procedures for the 2020 Olympic Games.  Two spots for each of the men’s and women’s team (as well as the replacement athlete) will now be determined by the USATT Olympic Trials, which are to be held from February 27th to March 1st in Santa Monica College, California.  One spot for each of the men’s and women’s team will be awarded to the USATT athlete with the highest world ranking according to the February 2020 ITTF list.  There will no longer be any discretionary selections for the 2020 USATT Olympic Team.

These changes were made by the USATT as a result of many months of discussions with and among its many stakeholders, including the USOPC.  I would like to personally thank everyone who so thoughtfully and carefully offered their views on this critical issue.  I am especially grateful for the feedback we received from our USATT athletes, some of whom are vying to make the 2020 Olympic team.  Please know that your voices were heard.

Full details on the Olympic trials can be found on the USATT website.  Please note that the deadline to enter the trials is February 15th.
