Sean O'Neill Appointed Permanently to USATT High Performance Director Position

January 22, 2020, Colorado Springs, CO – USATT CEO Virginia Sung has announced the appointment of 2-time US Olympian Sean O'Neill to the permanent position of USATT High Performance Director.

O'Neill was named as Interim High Performance Director in September 2019, and sought to assist the national team in a busy fall schedule.

Team USA swept Canada in the North America Olympic Team Trials in Rockford, earned Operation Gold Awards from the World Team Cup in Tokyo and reached the top 8 at the Junior World Championships in Thailand.

O’Neill recounted, “Everyone on the team performed amazingly. Our national coaches Jun Gao and Stefan Feth served with great distinction and were recently named co-winners of the USATT Coach of the Year award.

Individual players Lily Zhang and Kanak Jha continued to shine at the World Cups and the US Open.”

Additionally, Team USA’s youth members represented our country well at an international camp at the Westchester Table Tennis Center, the World Cadet Challenge and competed in their 2nd US National Ranking Tournament.

Sean further wanted to thank the daily teamwork provided to him by Jasna Rather, Daniel Rutenberg, Tammy Kuypers, members of the National Team and headquarters staff during the transition.

Looking forward to a busy Olympic year includes the 2020 USATT Hopes - Road to LA Tour, Senior and Youth National Ranking Tournaments, the Pan Am and World Championships plus supporting our players on the ITTF Tour.

USATT is confident that with Sean's experience as a player, coach and having worked as part of USA Table Tennis for many years, we can continue to raise the bar for High Performance table tennis in the USA to new heights.
