(Colorado Springs, CO – December 10, 2020) – USA Table Tennis (“USATT”), the United States of America’s National Governing Body for the sport of table tennis, today announced that the organization’s Chief Executive Officer Virginia Sung has been selected to serve as the president of the North American Table Tennis Union (“NATTU”). Comprised of five North American countries, including the United States and Canada, NATTU is recognized by the International Table Tennis Federation as North America’s continental table tennis federation.
“I’m honored to be selected to this role with NATTU,” said Ms. Sung. “My goal is to develop a cooperative group of nations in this part of the world who are dedicated to collaboratively growing this great sport in our continental region. I want to thank each of the delegates from our participating countries. USATT looks forward to working with these countries to strengthen and improve our respective table tennis federations, particularly as we emerge from the difficult circumstances created by the world-wide coronavirus pandemic.”
"The initiative to reactivate NATTU by the USATT through its CEO, Virginia Sung, is very welcomed by Canada. TTCAN provides its full support to the new NATTU President, Virginia Sung, and will cooperate with her for the betterment of our support in North America" said the TTCAN President.
“The Bahamas is pleased to be appointed on the board of the NATTU. We look forward to working with our partners and advancing table tennis throughout the region” said Geoffrey McPhee, the President of the Bahamas Table Tennis.
In addition to the US and Canada, NATTU representation includes federations from the US Virgin Islands, Bermuda, and, most recently, the Bahamas. In other action undertaken yesterday, NATTU will request from the International Federation to be merged with ITTF North America into one organization that will operate under the NATTU trade name.
