US Table Tennis Team Announced for Olympic Showdown Against Canada

The most anticipated match of the year is coming to the BMO Harris Bank Center, Rockford, Illinois on 5th October, as the USA and Canada fight for Olympic Qualification for Tokyo2020. Today TeamUSA announced its team to rise to that challenge, following selection by USATT High Performance.

The long awaited match will see a different format from previous years, with the two countries facing off in a team match, rather than the old 3 day singles knockout format which saw the winner from each day qualify.

Winning the Olympic format 5-match team tie would see the victorious team qualify for the team event, and take the maximum 2 singles positions on offer for each nation. The losing team will take 1 singles position for the Tokyo Games.

Today the following players were announced to represent the United States in this all-important match:

Men's Team:
Kanak Jha, Nikhil Kumar, Zhou Xin, Feng Yijun
Coach: Stefan Feth

Women's Team:
Wu Yue, Lily Zhang, Liu Juan, Amy Wang
Coach: Gao Jun

Team Leader: Daniel Rutenberg

The 5-match format has proven to be an exciting and yet dangerous format, with order of play crucial and special consideration required by coaches for the opening doubles match. It will keep spectators on the edge of their seats, with the pressure high and Tokyo2020 qualification on the line.

We wish our players the very best of luck as they prepare for the big event in just 3 weeks time.

USATT would like to thank the city of Rockford for its great support in making this event possible and their constant support for this amazing event.
