As the last day arrives to enter the 2019 Seamaster US Open, those attending received a nice surprise. With registration's end looming, Serbia's Aleksandar Karakasevic committed his entry to the event. Karakasevic, rated USATT 2835, will be the highest USATT rated player in the Men's Singles field, and is also a 3-time US Open Champion. The Serb won the event in 2003, 2006 and 2007.
The inclusion of the Serb, who has been ranked as high as 32 in the world (currently 127), will no doubt enhance the spectating experience for all. The left hander is infamous for his exceptional touch and one of the most dominant backhand games in international table tennis.
Also raising the bar for competitors is Russia's Polina Mikhailova, currently ranked 44 in the world for Women's, she will no doubt add some big competition to an event which already includes Sweden's Matilda Ekholm and defending champion Liu Juan from the USA.
China's Liu Yi has also entered the Men's Singles, a former Chinese National Team defender who was also ranked top 100 in the world through 2013-2015.
With just a day left to enter, 2014 US Open Champion Tao Wenzhang has entered the mix. The former champ was forced to withdraw from last year's event in the round of 16 stage after aggravating a lower back injury, but is back to redeem himself in 2019.
All in all it is shaping up to be an impressive field of competitors, one which will no doubt be incredibly exciting for the 700+ players heading to Fort Worth for this year's US Open, and all those who will follow the event livestream.
There is still time to enter, don't miss out:
