For an astounding third consecutive year, the Sung sister duo of Rachel and Joanna finished on the podium in the Cadet Girl's Team event at the 2019 ITTF Italian Cadet and Junior Open.
The girls emerged completely unscathed through the group stage, winning their encounters against Hungary, Italy 3 and Serbia all 3-0.
Into the main draw and they would face off against Russia, with Rachel winning both of her singles matches 3-0 and the sisters combining to win the doubles also 3-0.
Unfortunately their run would come to an end against the eventual winners, China, but another bronze medal for the girls in the event - the third year in a row for them to achieve a podium finish together in Italy.
Rachel would pick up another medal in the Cadet Girl's singles, running through from the round of 32 and defeating players from Romania, Singapore and Serbia, before eventually being halted in her footsteps - again by China. The same would occur in the quarterfinals of the Junior Girl's singles for Rachel after her wins against Portugal, Italy and Wales.
The sisters would pair up again to win another bronze in the Cadet Girl's doubles - they won against France, Romania and Hungary/Wales, before losing to China in the semifinals.
Amy Wang was also on duty in Italy, along with Michael Tran.
Wang picked up a bronze in the Junior Girl's singles. Her form was dominant from the round of 64, and in the round of 16 she defeated China's Kuai Man in a lengthy 4-3 match.
Wang toppled Russia in the next round in straight games, before narrowly losing out to China's Wu Yangchen 11-6 in the 7th in the semifinal stage.
Without a doubt, the Italian Cadet and Junior Open must be a favorite tournament for Rachel and Joanna Sung, picking up 3 medal finishes.
Congratulations to the youth team players in Italy!
