Potsville Senior Aiming for High School Sport Recognition

By Matt Hetherington | Jan. 24, 2018, 6:28 p.m. (ET)

Nick Hagerty is a Senior at Potsville High School in Arkansas with a class project and a vision. Hagerty is actively seeking for table tennis to be recognized a an official High School Sport in the state of Arkansas. He has already begun communicating with the Arkansas Activities Association to pursue having table tennis sanctioned as a high school sport, but needs to build the profile as a club sport first.

He has started by organizing a tournament at Potsville High School for Saturday February 10, 2018 and is encouraging as many students to come and enter the tournament as possible, not just to support the event but also to help move towards achieving the status which the sport of table tennis crucially needs, not just in Arkansas, but across all US states.

The tournament will consist of 4 brackets: boys singles, girls singles, boys doubles, girls doubles. All players need to provide their own ping pong paddles while PHS will provide ping pong tables and balls. Entry fee is $5 per person per event.

The tournament is open to any school student between grades 9-12 in the Arkansas state and promises to be a fun and competitive experience for all players.

If any student(s), grade 9-12, are interested in participating, please have them email their names, school’s name, events, and partner (if applicable) on or before Monday, February 5th. Email for any submissions or other questions is nicholas.hagerty@pottsvilleschools.org. Thank you very much!
