800 Players, $50,000 in Prize Money and 97 Events Highlights 2017 US Open

Held continuously since 1931, this year’s U.S. Open will return to Las Vegas Dec. 17-22. It remains to be one of the premier events on the USATT calendar and attracts players from across the country and the world.

Early rounds play on more than 130 tables and will be held at the Las Vegas Convention Center before the action switches to a yet to be announced unique venue for the men’s and women’s singles championship matches. Action kicks off with the US Para Open which begins on the 13th December, followed by the North American Youth Olympic Games Qualification Tournament which leads off the US Open event on the 17th.

More than 800 players from all 50 states and an expected 25 countries will compete in 97 events spanning the entire landscape of tournament play starting with men’s and women’s championships to doubles, age group and rating divisions. The global scope of the tournament is reflected in the number of countries including Korea, China, Japan, France and Poland expected to be represented.

An elite professional field is once again expected to play for this prestigious crown and more than $50,000 in total prize money. Tomislav Pucar of Croatia, at No. 86 in the world is the highest ranked player in the tournament (as of Nov. 13) but will face stiff challenge from some former greats in the form of 4 time Olympians Lucjan Blaszczyk and Damien Eloi.

The U.S. will be well represented with Rio Games Olympians Kanak Jha, Timothy Wang, Wu Yue and Lily Zhang all entered.

With events spanning across multiple age groups, rating categories and singles, doubles and team events in the mix, there's an event for everyone and plenty of great table tennis on action for those who enjoy watching the highest levels of the sport.
