In order to comply with the US Olympic Qualification process, the US Women's team will not be competing in the ITTF Olympic Qualifying event today. The process specifically states that the third US player to be selected for the team event in Rio on the last day of competition. As the US has already qualified the maximum of two women (Yue Wu and Lily Zhang) to compete in the Olympic singles event, it was best to have the US women not compete today so as to avoid any confusion or inequity in the selection of the third US woman for the team competition. Alternates to the 2016 Olympic team will also be selected based on Sunday's competition.
