Jimmy Butler

2 x US Olympian (1992 & 1996) Jimmy Butler (Houston, TX) continued his amazing comeback by qualifying for the 2015 World Cup with his win in Markham, CA on May 17. The 44-year old will represent the US at the World Cup in Halmstad, Sweden in October. Butler previously participated in the 1992 World Cup in Ho Chi Minh City, where he finished in position 9-12. Since an eight year absence due to injury, Butler has won his 4th National Singles Championships, earned spots on the 2014 & 2015 National Teams, and will be participating in the 2015 Pan Am Games this summer.

Angela Guan

2015 World Team Member, Angela Guan (San Jose, CA) won two gold medals at the 2015 Canadian Junior and Cadet Open in Markham, Canada on May 11-14. In Junior Singles, Guan won her preliminary round robin (3-0) without dropping a game and then beat USA team mates Crystal Wang (Boyds, MD) 4-2 and Prachi Jha (Milpitas, CA) 4-2 for the ITTF Junior Circuit Titles. In Junior Team play Guan paired up with Jha to eliminate Canada “A” 3-1 in the semi-finals and USA “B” 3-0. Guan’s current junior world ranking is 65 which should improve dramatically with her outstanding performance.

Pam Fontaine & Cynthia Ranii

2012 Paralympian Pam Fontaine (Highland Village, TX) and Cynthia Ranii (Santa Cruz, CA) won a bronze medal at the Slovak Open Women’s Class 3 event in Bratslava, Slovak on May 12-17.

Team USA beat a combined team of France and Australia by the narrowest of margins 3-2 with Fontaine winning the final match in straight sets while battling a fever. In the semi-finals, Fontaine had to withdraw from the event due to illness and Team USA had to settle for 3rd/4th position. Fontaine will represent the United States in the 2015 Para Pan Am Games in Toronto this summer.
