Coach Feth quotes:

1. Your expectations for the men's/women's teams. Are we team medal contenders?

"Going in as the 8th seed in the Team Event, I hope that we can advance to the quarterfinals first to match our seeding. Of course we are all dreaming of winning a medal and with all 3 players playing at their limit we can be able to upset a higher ranked team in the quarters to make our dream come true."

2. Your expectations for the men's/women's singles and teams in individual play?

"My goal is for all 3 players to advance out of their RR group first, with the players playing their best table tennis and hopefully they will be able to pull off upsets against higher ranked players to reach the quarter-finals. This will give them a chance to play for a medal in the single elimination round."

3. A brief 1 or 2 sentence scouting reporting on each of the three men's/women's singles players? What are their strengths? What are your realistic hopes for them as far as medals?

Timothy (14th seed): - "Coming in his second Pan Am Games  after a good performance at US Open last week. Has more confidence now and has the ability to elevate his level against higher ranked players. He has a balanced and well-rounded game that's good for finding an opponent's weakness."

Kanak (19th seed): - "Lots of energy and enthusiasm coming into his first Pan Am Games. He is ready to perform well and can notch some major upsets. Kanak is a relentless fighter who fights all the way to the end, plays fearlessly, and has great footwork and speed on the table."

Jim (21st seed) : "Coming in with lots of experience from three previous Pan Am Games and with the confidence of winning the NA Cup in the same venue 2 months ago. Jim has great serves and deep tactical understanding with a dangerous backhand that can be effective at the highest levels of competition. I trust that Jim can deliver in big matches just like the US Nationals and NA Cup."

Coach Gheorghe quotes:

1. Your expectations for the men's/women's teams. Are we team medal contenders?

"Yes. We are the second seeded team."

2. Your expectations for the men's/women's singles and doubles teams in individual play?

"There is no women’s doubles but only Team and singles. For Women’s single pending on the draw we will medal. It can be the situation when 2 athletes from USA will play in QF so only one will advance though."

3. A brief 1 or 2 sentence scouting reporting on each of the three men's/women's singles players? What are their strengths? What are your realistic hopes for them as far as medals?

"All three women are medal contenders but according to the seeding list and pending the draw they might end up on the same side of the draw."

"Jiaqi Zheng - first time Pan Am team member is eager to play well and win medals. Good speed, good foot work and really motivated. She trained in China prior to US Open."

"Yue Wu - also first time Pan Am team member looking forward to a great event and her best performance. Good endurance and consistency. She train in China prior to US Open."

"Lily Zhang - Olympian and second time Pan Am Team member is ready to perform better than last Pan Am Games and bring medals home. Good mental strength and techniques."

"All 3 athletes are ready to start the competition and do their best to win medals for USA."
