Lindenwood University Kicks-off Fall Tournament Season with 2014 Butterfly Badger Open

Felipe MoritaFinishing in 3rd place at the 2014 National Collegiate Championships and competing in over 10 tournaments a year, Lindenwood University players have become the ones to beat in both collegiate and USATT sanctioned tournaments across the Midwest. As the first tournament of the season for the Lindenwood Lions, the 2014 Butterfly Badger Open will be a testing ground for new freshman recruits and seasoned players alike.

Making up 6 of the top 12 entrants entered in the Open Singles event, Lindenwood University players are hoping to take home many titles at this weekend’s event. Top rated Lindenwood player Alex Legaria (2395) from Mexico is the 4th seed in the Open event, while top female player Mario Castillo (2148) from Columbia is the #1 seed in the Women’s event. Brother duo Micaiah (2315) and Gabriel Skolnick (2334) are also highly ranked in the U2500, U2400 and Open Doubles events.

Lindenwood University’s table tennis team participates in up to 6 sanctioned tournaments a semester, and trains 3 times a week for 2-3 hours each time. Their dedication to the sport and their team spirit is unparalleled in the Midwest. With 12 players participating in the 2014 Butterfly Badger Open, the Lindenwood Lions will be a force to be reckoned with at this weekend’s event.
