2014 Election Notice and Process

The USA Table Tennis Board of Directors is defined in the Bylaws to consist of nine (9) members. Three (3) members are defined as Independent Directors, one (1) member is defined as a Club Representative Director, two (2) members are defined as At Large Directors, one (1) member is defined as a National Organization Representative Director and two (2) members are defined as Athlete Directors. On December 31, 2014, there are three (3) seats on the current Board of Directors that will come to term according to the defined staggered election system. Members of the Board of Directors must be 18 years of age or older and must be citizens of the USA.

The following is a list of the Board of Director seats that will come to term on Dec 31, 2014:

Independent Director – currently held by Jim Kahler
Club Representative Director – currently held by Attila Malek
At Large Director – Jim McQueen

The election/selection process will be conducted under the authority of the USA Table Tennis Nomination and Governance Committee (NGC). The NGC consists of the following individuals:

Khoa Nguyen – Chairman
Bob Fox
Lucinda McRoberts
Daniel F. Parker

All nominations, whether by self-nomination or otherwise, must be received by USATT, 4065 Sinton Road, Suite 120, Colorado Springs, CO 80907, or by the close of business on November 14, 2014.

On October 16th, 2014, all USATT affiliated clubs can submit nominations for the Club Director. The nomination can be submitted by any club officer acting in the name of the club using club letterhead.

Any individual eligible for this position must be (i) a member of a Board of Directors of a club, or (ii) a Trustee of the club, or (iii) an Officer of a club. The club must be recognized by the USATT. Each Club Representative Director candidate must obtain at least twenty-five (25) Signature of Support from current adult USATT General Members in order to be eligible as a Club Director.

The nomination period will be open from October 16 through November 14, 2014. All nominations and supporting backup documents must be received by the National Office on or before the close of business on November 14 to be declared valid. The NGC will select the Club Director from the valid nominations received by the close of the nomination period. The announcement of the Club Director will be made on or about Dec. 30, 2014 via the USATT website.


The NGC shall ask for nominations of individuals who satisfy the definition of independent as defined in the Bylaws Section 7.7. Nominations may be received from sources both within and outside USATT. Nominations must be received by the National Office on or before the close of business on November 14, 2014 to be considered valid. The NGC shall select, using whatever process the NGC determines appropriate, the one (1) Independent Director position that is coming to term. It is suggested that nominations also include a statement that the nominee accepts the nomination, and a statement that the nominee is willing to serve if selected. The nomination should also include a resume of the candidate that is not to exceed two pages, in a 12-point font and double-spaced format. The announcement of the Independent Director will be made on or about December 30, 2014 via the USATT website.


This position will be filled by an election of the general members of USATT.

The deadline for nominations is November 14, 2014. To be eligible to be a candidate, a person must be a general member on September 15, 2014.

All nominations must include:

  1. at least twenty-five (25) Signature of Support from adult USATT general members (membership must be current and in good-standing);
  2. a signed copy of the USATT_Code_of_Ethics, Ethical Behavior and Conflict of Interest; and
  3. a written statement of not more than one page, single-spaced, 12-point font, that explains why the nominee wants the position and what knowledge and skills the nominee would bring to the Board of Directors (which will be published on the USATT Web Page and sent in the November monthly E-Newsletter prior to the opening of the election voting period);
By November 21st, 2014, the Nominating and Governance Committee will select the final (at least two (2)) individuals who will stand for election by the membership,

The selected candidates will also be given 3 three minutes at the USATT Annual Assembly in Las Vegas, the evening of December 16th to address those present with their campaign statement.

The election will be done electronically, but if any person is not able to vote via internet, a paper ballot will be sent to that person if there is a request received at USATT headquarters by November 14, 2014. (The paper ballot will be sent as soon as the final individuals have been selected.)

USATT members eligible to vote (see Bylaw 5.2) may cast ballots as of November 27, 2014. The voting process conducted on-line through Survey Monkey. Instructions on how to vote on-line through Survey Monkey will be posted on the USATT website on or about November 15 and these instructions will be also be sent to all affiliated clubs and included in the November E-Newsletter. All votes must be received by December 27, 2014.

The results will be announced on January 6, 2015.
