Cary Cup Competition Kicks Off with First 5 Events on Friday

Only one day remains until approximately 200 table tennis players from all corners of the world convene in Cary, North Carolina for the 2014 Cary Cup Championship. Competition starts off on Friday morning with The Classic Hardbat Round Robin and the Friday Open Singles Round Robin at 10 a.m., and the Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced Singles Round Robin in the afternoon. All five events will finish on Friday, and players who also choose to compete in the main event on Saturday will start with a clean slate.

In The Classic Hardbat Round Robin, Bin Hai Chu (2248) will be looking to defend his title after winning the event in both 2012 and 2013. Many challengers will be biting at his heals, including Xin Peng (2364) formerly 2450+ and has been active in USATT tournaments since 1994, and Larry Hodges (2145) 4-time US Over-40 Hardbat champion. The multi-talented Jim Butler (2557) will also be competing in this event.

Di Yu (2438), Feiming Tong (2392) and Romina Aemmeh-Doust (2350) lead the standings in the Friday Open Singles Round Robin in the morning. While, heavy hitters Mingyu Shi (2796), Yijun Feng (2580), Yanjun Gao (2516) and Di Yu (2438) are the top four seeds in the Advanced Singles Round Robin in the afternoon.

Additionally, over 60 players will participate in the Beginning and Intermediate Round Robin events which will also take place on Friday afternoon.
