Lily Zhang (Palo Alto, California) lead Team USA to a 21st-place finish at the 2014 World Championships, held April 28-May 5 in Tokyo. The 17-year-old competed in her sixth world championships, winning five out of seven matches the first stage of the championship division. Zhang is now ranked 67th in women’s singles.
Tahl Leibovitz (Queens, New York) defeated No. 3 Yuriy Shchepanskyy of Russia, 3-1, to capture the men’s singles gold medal at the 2014 Slovakia Open, held May 13-18 in Bratislava, Slovakia. Leibovitz went undefeated in preliminary round-robin play before reaching the semifinals and losing to eventual winner Luurii Nozdrunov of Russia, 3-1, at the 2014 Slovenia Open, held May 6-11 in Lasko, Slovenia.
