When the USATT Board of Directors met on February 17, the Board voted to accept the recommendations of the Tournament Advisory Committee (TAC) to eliminate date protection for all USATT tournaments.
TAC Chairman, Larry Rose, presented the recommendation to the Board. The TAC is charted to increase the quantity and quality of USATT tournaments. Removing date protection in favor of an open market system is a step toward both of these goals. The Regional Sanctioning Coordinators and the Nationals Sanctioning Coordinator will continue to help tournament directors coordinate regional tournament schedules, but will no longer deny sanctions on the basis of a prior claim date. Tournament directors are encouraged to plan and sanction events early in order to better publicize their events and have them included on the USATT calendar. The USATT Board and the TAC hope that this will provide more opportunities for tournament play for all of our members.
