5th Annual Ping Pong for Charity tournament and “SLAMfest” Held in Virginia Beach
Held on September 13th & 14th, the 5th year of this event was held to raise awareness of the therapeutic value of table tennis on brain fitness and mental health and the benefits and treatment of Alzheimer’s and dementia. Presentations by Neuropsychologist, Dr. Scott Sauter, focused on the mental and physical benefits offered by the sport of table tennis.
Events on the 13th included two morning/afternoon Virginia Beach elementary school exhibitions by Wally Green and Kaz Yokoyama and an evening "SLAMfest" which featured a live band, food and drinks, exhibitions by Wally and Kaz, and a "Deadly Dozen" invitational tournament with cash prizes going to the winner (Bill Wickline) and runner-up (Jack Staylor). Saturday featured a round robin “amateur” tournament in which 170 players of all ages and skill levels competed in singles and doubles on 30 tables (bordered by 300 barriers) provided by Kettler USA whose national headquarters are in Virginia Beach.
