Oro Valley To Host US Collegiate and US Senior National Championships

Feb. 20, 2018, 5:42 p.m. (ET)

ORO VALLEY, Ariz. – The best collegiate and senior-level synchronized swimmers in the nation will compete for numerous titles March 29-April 1 at the U.S. Collegiate & U.S. Senior National Championships.

This is the first year that the U.S. Collegiate Championships and U.S. Senior National Championships will be held back to back at the same location.

“Having athletes of the same age participate in competitions back to back will hopefully inspire the high school swimmers to participate in collegiate synchro,” said Myriam Glez, USA Synchro’s Executive Director and High Performance Director. “We expect great organization from our hosts who are very experienced with national meets, nice weather and a great competition as it always is for our collegiate championships.

“This year we have new technical elements and different scoring rules for our senior nationals so that should be a bit of a challenge for our competitors and judges."

The U.S. Collegiate Championships, to run March 29-31, will feature solo, duet, trio and team competitions, while the U.S. Senior National Championships, March 31-April 1, will include solo, duet, team and combo. Both championships will be held at the Oro Valley Aquatic Center.

“This is an opportunity to possibly crown both U.S. Collegiate and U.S. Senior champions on the same weekend,” Glez said.

In addition, the 2018 U.S. Junior and 13-15 National Championships will follow soon after, April 12-15, in Lewisville, Texas.

Ohio State is the defending collegiate champion, having won its 30th U.S. Collegiate title last year in Columbus, Ohio.
