COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The world’s top synchronized swimmers will take in the best of Southern California next summer when they compete at the Synchro America Open, a leg of the prestigious FINA Artistic Swimming World Series.

Sponsored by Orange County, the 2018 Synchro America Open will be held June 7-9, 2018, at Splash! La Mirada Regional Aquatics Center in La Mirada, Calif. Synchronized swimmers will compete in solo, duet, mixed duet, free combo and highlight routines in junior and senior divisions.

The event is part of a two-leg North American swing of the series, with the 2018 Synchro Canada Open being held the week before, May 30-June 2, in Surrey, British Columbia. USA Synchro and Synchro Canada officials are working together to encourage athletes to compete at both events and to offer travel assistance between the two countries.

“We are delighted to have this event once again in Southern California. With the Olympic Games coming to Los Angeles in 10 years, the area is already busying with sporting events and activities in preparation for the Games,” Myriam Glez, USA Synchro’s executive director and high performance director said. “We plan to come back to Los Angeles for the Synchro America Open regularly between now and the Olympics in 2028. This is the perfect location for this competition with a fantastic outdoor facility, the support of Sports Anaheim and an opportunity for competitors to stay after the event for a vacation.

“In addition, teams can participate in two legs of the FINA World Series at the Canadian and American Open and make the best out of their travel to North America. We look forward to welcoming all competitors to sunny California.”

The Synchro America Open is the biggest international synchro competition in the U.S., and Orange County makes it the ideal destination event. With unsurpassed weather, 42 miles of breathtaking beaches and coastline, legendary theme parks, world-class designer shops, oceanfront golf courses, and California cuisine as interpreted by both local artisans and celebrity chefs, the OC entices visitors with endless discoveries.

The OC’s world-famous cities include Anaheim, a supporter of the Synchro America Open and home of Disneyland Resort (the original Disneyland) and Knott’s Berry Farm. Athletes and officials will be housed at the Red Lion Anaheim Resort and Clarion Hotel Anaheim Resort, just minutes from the two theme parks.

The Synchro America Open is one of 10 events in the FINA-sanctioned competition circuit that made its debut last year. Other counties hosting events are Canada, China, France, Greece, Hungary, Japan, Slovakia, Spain and Uzbekistan. The World Series runs from March to June.

The FINA Artistic Swimming World Series integrates existing and well-recognized competitions in the sport. The international teams taking part collect points at each meet, and final rankings and prize money are tallied at the end of the series.
