COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. USA Synchro has announced the six athletes chosen for its 2017 Rising Star Program.

Those athletes, as selected by USA Synchro’s high performance director, education director and National Talent Camp coaches, are:

  • Madi Almond, Cincinnati Synchrogators
  • Megumi Field, La Mirada Aquabelles
  • Paola Inestroza, Coral Springs Aquacades
  • Natalie Lagrone, Nevada Desert Mermaids
  • Joanna Liu, Rocky Mountain Splash
  • Victoria Zimm, Arizona Desert Dolphins

Field and Lagrone also took part in the program in 2016.

The Rising Star Program is part of USA Synchro’s National Talent Pool, which the National Governing Body uses to identify, evaluate and develop talented synchronized swimmers.

Each year, athletes are observed throughout the season at zone competitions, national competitions, national team trials, all-star camps and national talent camps. Only a handful of swimmers are selected to the Rising Star program.

Three-time Olympian Paola Tirados, who won silver for Spain at the 2008 Games, is the Rising Star coach. She travels to the athletes' clubs twice a year to coach the athletes, mentor their coaches and provide assistance to their clubs.
