Founded as the Amateur Softball Association in 1933 by Leo Fisher and Michael J. Pauley, USA Softball was named the National Governing Body of Softball (NGB) in the United States by the United States Olympic Committee in 1978.  As the National Governing Body of Softball in the United States, USA Softball provides people of all ages the opportunity to play the game they love at a variety of levels.  USA Softball offers recreational, league, tournament and National Championship play for fast pitch, slow pitch and modified pitch and annually conducts over 100 National Championships.

ACE Coach Education Program

USA Softball provides the best coaching education program called ACE (Aspire, Challenge, Encourage), where coaches of all levels gain expert training opportunities every year.  USA Softball also provides background checks on ALL coaches who are involved in championship play.  The ACE Coach Education Program provides softball coaches of all levels – from beginning coaches to experienced veterans – an opportunity to become educated with a national softball organization.  ACE Coaches also have the opportunity to receive discounted membership to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA).

Best umpire training

USA Softball is known for having the most knowledgeable and trained umpires in the country.  For those serious about umpiring, USA Softball umpire training is the best available in any sports organization today.  USA Softball umpires are nationally recognized as the best trained and proficient in the sport and are involved in competition starting with league play, city, state and national championships. Ultimately, USA Softball umpires could officiate events such as world championship, Pan American and Olympic competitions.

Leader in equipment standards

USA Softball has been the leader in the industry to protect the integrity of the sport.  Each year, the USA Softball's equipment testing and specifications committee examines the current rules and specification governing various items of equipment.  

Pipeline to the National Team program

USA Softball is the primary funding source and the pipeline to the USA Softball National Team Program! All programs (Junior Women, Junior Men, Women, Men's Fast Pitch, Men's Slow Pitch and Women's Slow Pitch) are still alive and well because of the efforts of USA Softball and keeping athletes wearing the Red, White and Blue is a top priority. We are the only softball association who supports this effort and provides financially to these teams and are the road to representing the United States internationally at the Pan American Games, World Championships and Olympic Games.

USA Softball Hall of Fame Complex

USA Softball owns and operates the USA Softball Hall of Fame Complex, which is the Softball Capital of the World™.  Since it was built in 1987, the Mecca of Softball® has become home to some of the most outstanding softball events in the United States such as the NCAA Women's College World Series (WCWS), World Cup of Softball, Border Battle, USA 18U GOLD National Championship and the USA Slow Pitch Championship Series.
