OKLAHOMA CITY – USA Softball, a volunteer-driven, not-for-profit organization announced today that Dan Bennett (Boring, Ore.) has been appointed as Commissioner of USA Softball of Portland. Bennett will assume the role following his stint as Interim Commissioner after the retirement of Commissioner Ron Boley.
"I am honored to continue representing USA Softball and USA Softball of Portland as Commissioner,” said Bennett. “My fire and passion for this great game has not dimmed and I aim to continue to build and promote USA Softball in the youth, adult, and umpire programs. It has been a great and wonderful ride with USA Softball so far, and I am thankful for the opportunity to continue working in the sport while serving our association.”
Prior to taking on the role of Commissioner, Bennett served as Junior Olympic (JO) Commissioner for USA Softball of Portland for 15 years after holding the Deputy JO Commissioner position for seven years. A Tournament Director in over 300 Invitational Tournaments, Northwest Regionals, and Western National Tournaments, Bennett has extensive experience in scheduling, multi-tasking, and communication in the softball world. Additionally, Bennett currently serves as President of the Mt. Hood Girls Softball League and has been elected in three different terms since 1994.
Bennett’s knowledge and love for the game began as an athlete with a 16-year playing career in Men’s Slow Pitch, before also taking on a role as a youth fast pitch coach. After coaching his four daughters and many other young girls in the state of Oregon, Bennett’s 33-year coaching career came to an end following his retirement in 2019.
Bennett attended the University of Idaho and the Oregon Institute of Technology as a Men’s Basketball student-athlete while studying Business Law. Outside of USA Softball, he has been in the wholesale paper industry for 30 years as a Warehouse Operations Manager overseeing multiple locations throughout the Northwest region.
