January Blues Across America

Region 5 |

Djon Jaunes is a member of USA Softball of Oklahoma and began his career in 1970 when he was 14 years old. In his 50 years of umpiring, Jaunes has called 22 state tournaments and 29 National Championships, including two Men’s Major Slow Pitch National Championships, Men’s Class A, B and C Slow Pitch National Championships, Women’s Open Slow Pitch National Championships and Girls’ 16-Under & 18-Under GOLD National Championships. A USA Softball Elite Umpire, Jaunes garners awards in all levels of the Medals Program, is a member of the National Indictor Fraternity and was inducted into the USA Softball of Oklahoma Hall of Fame.


Region 7 |

Larry Dunn, USA Softball of St. Louis umpire, is an Air Force Veteran who retired from service several years ago. Dunn has been a member of USA Softball of St. Louis since 1994 and has been very successful in both fast pitch and slow pitch games. In addition to umpiring, Dunn has also sang the National Anthem for various local tournaments. With retirement near, Dunn plans to return to his hometown, Houston, Texas. USA Softball of St. Louis is proud to have had Dunn as a member for over 25 years. He will be greatly missed!  


Region 7 |

USA Softball of St. Louis umpire, Brian Kelley, is an Army Veteran who served eight years. A member of USA Softball for over 13 years, Kelley has attended various National Umpire Schools, umpired several National Championships and is a member of the National Indicator Fraternity and Medals Program. Kelley attends local clinics and breakouts and is working his way back into a full schedule after taking some time off. USA Softball of St. Louis is proud to have Kelley has a member!


Region 9 |

USA Softball of Wyoming 16-Under State Championship Crew.

First Base Umpire: Pam Vallejos, 31-year Elite Umpire who also worked the 18-Under GOLD Nationals.

Home Plate Umpire: Michael Showalter, 24-year Elite Umpire, who also worked the 18-Under USA Softball Girls’ Fast Pitch Class A National Championship.

Third Base Umpire: Lucas Kluber, 5-year umpire, working on his Elite, who also worked the 16-Under GOLD Nationals.

This was the only championship game played in Wyoming in 2020 due to the COVID-19 restraints on playing.



Region 9 |

USA Softball of Washington veteran umpire, Elaine Dorman, worked the 12-Under championship game with USA Softball of Washington rookie umpire, Kira Comfort, at the Washington State Championship in Lacey, Washington. Dorman has been a mentor for many years, helping numerous young umpires advance their skills while also having fun. Comfort started umpiring so young girls could see a female umpire on the field while also giving them the opportunity to play the game they love. Dorman and Comfort are both from Bellingham, Washington and USA Softball of Washington is proud to have them!

Region 9 |

USA Softball of Portland umpire, Bridget Lahm, played college softball and is now staying involved in the game through umpiring. She has been umpiring for 11 years and can still be found on the field, either playing or umpiring. Lahm earned her Elite working Slow Pitch but is also proficient in Fast Pitch.
