USA Softball welcomes over 700 umpires for virtual 2021 biennial Umpire-in-Chief Clinic

Feb. 03, 2021, 11:33 a.m. (ET)

OKLAHOMA CITY — USA Softball, the National Governing Body of Softball in the United States, expects to welcome over 700 umpires for the biennial Umpire-In-Chief (UIC) clinic set to take place Feb. 2-15.  This biennial clinic will take place virtually and allow participants to attend sessions that cover a wide variety of topics such as understanding rules, mechanics and evaluations as well as the what it takes to be a National Championship UIC.

“Despite the challenges of 2020 and the cancelations the COVID-19 pandemic caused, we are glad to be holding our regularly-scheduled Biennial UIC Clinic,” said Director of Umpires, Kevin Ryan. “Thanks to the generosity of Bollinger Insurance, we are able to hold this clinic virtually at no-cost for all association attendees and still do things we normally do at an in-person clinic. We also plan to offer recordings of these sessions for those not able to attend. I would be remiss if I did not thank Hal Van Ryswyk for acting as the main administrator so that we could carry out this event virtually. Even though this year’s UIC Clinic will encompass several days, our hope is that it will be as close to an in-person experience as possible.”

The UIC Clinic will conclude with a Regional Award of Excellence presentation honoring exemplary umpires throughout the country.

USA Softball would like to thank sponsors RPS Bollinger Insurance and Markel for their continued support of the game of softball and the UIC Clinic.
