Game schedule announced for U-18 Men's Softball World Cup

PALMERSTON, New Zealand –– The official game schedule for the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) U-18 Men’s Softball World Cup has been released. Held February 22 – March 1 in Palmerston, New Zealand, a total of 50 games will be played across nine days as participating countries fight for the Gold.

Team USA joins Denmark, Guatemala, Japan, Mexico, and New Zealand in Pool B while Argentina, Australia, Canada, Czech Republic, Singapore, and South Africa are set to compete in Pool A. 

 

The 12 participating countries will compete in a five-day Opening Round with the top three teams from each pool advancing to the Super Round, while the remaining six teams will compete in the Placement Round held Feb. 27-29The top two teams will then advance to the World Championship game on March 1 at 4 p.m. local time while the third and fourth-place teams will battle for the Bronze Medal at 1 p.m. local time.

 

Team USA enters the tournament ranked No. 6 and will kick off Opening Round against No. 8 Mexico held on Feb. 22 at 2:30 p.m. local time. The Red, White and Blue will then take on host country, No. 3 New Zealand, on Feb. 23 at 7:30 p.m. local time before additional match ups against No. 21 Guatemala (Feb. 24 at 3:30 p.m. local time), No. 11 Denmark (Feb. 25 at 12 p.m. local time), and No. 1 Japan (Feb. 26 at 2:30 p.m. local time).

 

Led by Bob Piddock (Castro Valley, Calif.), the U-18 MNT roster will be composed of members from the 2019 squad that traveled to Guatemala City for the U-17 Men’s Softball Pan American Championship where the U.S finished in fifth place. Joining Piddock on the coaching staff are Tony Aresco (Stoneham, Mass.), Avon Meacham (Upper Marlboro, Md.), and Jerry Zimmerman (Ephrata, Pa.).
