February Blues Across America

Region 4 |

Allen Whitmon (Saltillo, Miss.) has been a registered USA Softball of Mississippi umpire for 18 years and has umpired in 16 National Championships working in both Fast and Slow Pitch, Whitmon also works both games in the local leagues in the Tupelo, MS area. In addition to umpiring, Allen has also taken on roles of leadership and umpire mentoring in his Northeast Mississippi Umpire Association. Allen’s goals are to become an Elite Slow Pitch umpire and work in the Supers and possibly the Border Battle.

Terry Weeden (New Albany, Miss.) has been a registered umpire with USA Softball of Mississippi for 20 years. Terry has worked tournament and league ball throughout Northeast Mississippi and has worked 15 National Championships, including the Men’s A Slow Pitch and the 18 Gold Fast Pitch. Several of those USA Softball National Championships were worked with his identical twin brother, Jerry, who is an accomplished umpire as well. Terry maintains his place in his local association mentoring the new and less experienced umpires in the area while umpiring at the NCAA and NAIA collegiate levels.

Jerry Hoffman, USA Softball of Michigan, Jerry umpired his second JO National championship in Normal, Ill.in 2019. Jerry has been registered as an USA Softball umpire for the past 17 years. Due to job responsibilities, he doesn't have the chance to umpire a lot more but when given the chance he is willing to help in any way for the betterment of USA Softball of Michigan program.

 

  Region 6 |

Tim Rizor, USA Softball of Michigan, was assigned to his third JO National Championship this past year in Normal, Ill. Tim has been a registered USA Softball umpire for the seven years. Tim will be applying for his NIF award and has a great future in umpiring. In his spare time, he enjoys camping with his family in Northern Michigan.

Erik Gaumer (left) and Jeff Bourke (right), USA Softball of Sacramento, volunteered their time to work a slow pitch event held by the Davis CA Firefighter and Police departments to raise funds for the family of Natale Corona, a Davis CA police officer killed in the line of duty in January 2019.

Joyce Patrick, a player within USA Softball of Southern California, also serves a youth umpire. She did a phenomenal job working the largest State Tournament in the U.S. during the summer of 2019. Joyce has a promising officiating career with USA Softball of Southern California.

Joe and Joseph Vargas are a father and son umpiring crew in the Inland Empire of USA Softball of Southern California. The dynamic duo has found a great way to enjoy the game and spend some family time together. Joe and Joseph are dedicated toUSA Softball of Southern California, continuing to improve their umpiring skills and are always around when the association needs anything.
