Beloli/OSS Apparel crowned Men's Class C Slow Pitch National Champions

OKLAHOMA CITY – The 2020 USA Softball Men’s Class C Slow Pitch National Championship concluded today with Beloli/OSS Apparel taking home the title after a 15-11 victory over D&R Miller Concrete at USA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium – OGE Energy Field. Despite the eventual loss, D&R Miller Concrete battled through the loser’s bracket and collected wins over MAT/Wahl/Nzone, 15-5, and Reno Cycles & Gear, 15-14, before taking Beloli/OSS Apparel into extra innings and forcing the winner-take-all game on Championship Sunday following a 13-12 win. 

 

In Championship Sunday’s opening 8 a.m. CT game, MAT/Wahl/Nzone watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 15-5 loss to D&R Miller Concrete. D&R Miller Concrete scored on a double by Joseph Nissley, a triple by Josh Chupp and a sacrifice fly from David Schwartz to take an early 5-0 lead in the first inning. Pushing another seven runs across the board in the second, D&R Miller Concrete extended their lead to 12-0. Derek Lambright, Glenn Bender and Josh Chupp each went yard for D&R Miller Concrete, while Chupp led the team with five RBI. Dustin Anthony, Josh Brockert and Scott Gracher were responsible for MAT/Wahl/Nzone’s five runs scored in the second and third innings. 

 

Game 2 paired D&R Miller Concrete and Reno Cycles & Gear together, with the game going a full seven innings and D&R Miller Concrete claiming the 15-14 victory in walk-off fashion. In the back-and-forth battle between the two teams, the two squads exchanged the lead twice.  Nissley collected a double and homerun to plate four runs, while Wayne Bontrager and Aaron Yoder collected three RBI apiece for their home squad D&R Miller Concrete. Reno Cycles & Gear drove home 14 runs on 19 hits, while D&R Miller Concrete capitalized on 24 hits with 15 runs scored to advance to the Championship Game.

 

Pulling out the extra-inning 13-2 win and forcing an if-necessary game with Beloli/OSS Apparel was D&R Miller Concrete. Down 11-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning, D&R Miller Concrete plated three runs to keep the game alive. Tacking on eight runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and making it a tie 11-11 game, both teams forced their opponent to take a zero in the seventh frame and send the game into extra innings. After both teams scored a run for a 12-12 ballgame in the eighth inning, it was D&R Miller Concrete who pushed a run across in the ninth for the victory. Both teams went hit-for-hit, collecting 23 apiece in front of fans at USA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium. Lambright, Nissley, Schwartz and Bender each notched a home run, while Lambright and Bender tallied three RBI in the home squad’s victory. Miles Whitlock, Nicholas Campbell, John Slootmaker, and Ryan McElhinney each sent one out of the park for Beloli/OSS Apparel. 

 

Down to a winner-take-all contest at USA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium – OGE Energy Field, D&R Miller Concrete stayed hot by scoring six runs to start the game. Beloli/OSS Apparel was kept off the board in the bottom half of the frame but managed to put eight runs on the board between the second and third innings, while D&R Miller Concrete’s two runs in the third made it a tie 8-8 ballgame after three innings of play. D&R Miller Concrete took back the lead with a two-run fourth inning but Beloli/OSS Apparel matched them in the fifth to prove they weren’t done fighting and tie the game once more. Having already maxed out on the four-homerun per game limit, D&R Miller Concrete mustered a solo run in the sixth inning before Beloli/OSS Apparel responded with five of their own to ultimately secure the 15-11 title-clinching victory. Offensively in the hit column, D&R Miller Concrete tallied 16 total versus Beloli/OSS Apparel’s 18 hits. Whitlock led Beloli/OSS Apparel with four RBI while Campbell, McElhinney and Michael Maciag finished with three apiece.
