OKLAHOMA CITY – Following their Gold Medal performance at the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Women’s World Championship, the USA Softball Women’s National Team (WNT) has been selected as the Team winner for the Best of August Team USA awards, presented by Dow, as announced by the United States Olympic Committee earlier today.

The Red, White and Blue became the first U.S. team to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games with their World Championship win, joining host country Japan who earned an automatic qualifier as host.  Set before a field of 16 teams, Team USA finished the tournament with a perfect 10-0 record and claimed the world title after a 7-6 walk-off win over world-ranked No. 2 Japan. The win marked the 11th world title for the WNT program, continuing the storied legacy as the most decorated program in international softball.

In addition to the USA Softball WNT, artistic gymnasts Simone Biles and Sam Mikulak were named as both the female and male individual honorees.  In total, seven sports – including gymnastics, ice hockey, Para-cycling, Para swimming, softball, surfing and swimming – were represented among the 13 finalists across men’s, women’s and team categories.

The Team USA awards, which recognizes the outstanding achievements of Team USA athletes from the month of August, are voted on by NGB representatives and select members of the media for 50 percent of the final tally, with the other half determined by online fan voting.
