October Blues Across America

Oct. 04, 2018, 12 p.m. (ET)

Region 2 I Tim Sabin with USA Softball of Cincinnati has umpired a softball game in each of the fifty states.  His goal to work a game in each state was finalized July of this year (2018) at Patsy C. Mink Central Oahu Regional Park.  Tim began his USA Softball career in 1997 and it wasn’t long before Tim and his wife, both of whom love to travel, began the long journey to meeting the goal.
Region 4 I Roger Smith, USA softball of Mississippi, is a 40-year veteran USA Umpire from Biloxi, Mississippi.  He works the local leagues, weekend leagues tournaments, has worked five National Championships and also works as Mississippi's Gulf Coast UIC where he trains young umpires.  His dedication to USA Softball is very evident when you visit his district.

Region 8 I  Guy Julian from USA Softball of South Dakota moves back to his position.  “GuyBo,” as he is known to locals has been a USA Softball umpire for more than 30 years and often works USA Softball games six or seven days a week including men’s slow pitch, men’s senior slow pitch and co-ed slow pitch. The teams know they are always going to get Guy’s best effort and the local UICs can always count on him when he’s on the schedule.
Region 8 I Michael Wolf from USA Softball of North Dakota recently completed another successful McQuade Charity Tournament.  The McQuade is the largest tourney in the nation (in its 43rdyear) with over 450 men’s and women’s slow pitch teams! Mike serves, not only as UIC and co-director of the McQuade Tourney, but also North Dakota’s state UIC and has been a UIC at 12 National Championships.

Region 8 I Tom Friesen from USA Softball of South Dakota stops in between games at a girls’ state fast pitch tournament (pictured here).  Tom has been a USA Softball umpire for over 30 years after playing fast pitch softball in and around Sioux Falls.  He has been teaching in Arizona for 17 years, but returns to South Dakota every summer to umpire and spend time with family.
Region 10 I Brian "Barney" Miller is a spirited umpire out of USA Softball of Southern California. Barney just represented SoCal at the 10/12U National and did a phenomenal job! No matter the age bracket or the level of play, Barney gives it his all and works every game like it is the Championship Game!

Region 10 I Russ Joseph, USA Softball of Southern California, has an excitement for the game and a pure joy for teaching new umpires. Russ is a light that shines brightly on the field and we are fortunate to have him in our organization.
