The Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team (WWAST) had two outstanding events in the month of May.  First, the WWAST returned to Long Island the weekend of May 16-20 for the fifth time.  The first event took place on Wednesday, May 16 as several WWAST Players visited the Hospital for Special Surgery and spoke to some of the children who were patients.  On Thursday, May 17, several WWAST players played in a fundraising golf outing at Rock Hill Golf and Country Club.  On Friday, May 18, WWAST players spoke at two elementary schools to spread their words of inspiration.  This was followed by a workout at the All-Pro Sports Academy that was attended by members of the media.  On Saturday, torrential rains cancelled the outdoor events and the game, but the WWAST moved indoors and held a kids mini-camp.  A meet-and-greet fundraiser followed later that evening at the Commack Fire Department.  On Sunday, the team was greeted by better weather and played one game at the Medford Athletic Complex.  The WWAST defeated the Long Island All-Stars by a score of 31-12 to cap the weekend.  Our final event for May took us back to Toledo, Ohio for a third time on May 25-27.  On Friday night, we had a meet-and-greet with the event committee and event sponsors.  On Saturday morning, WWAST players visited the Toledo Children’s Hospital and spread their message of inspiration and perseverance to the kids who were patients of the hospital.  WWAST players also participated in the Toledo Memorial Day Parade.  A full day of softball took place on Saturday afternoon as the WWAST played in three games.  In Game 1, Cody Rice’s walk-off inside-the-park two run home run won it for the WWAST as they defeated the Toledo Police Department, 13-12.  In Game 2, WWAST beat a combined team of Sylvania Senior All-Stars and Celebrities, 13-2.  The brooms were out for the third game as the WWAST swept the series by besting the Clean Planet Senior Softball Team, 13-11, in the finale.  The WWAST would like to thank everyone including the event organizers, sponsors, and fans who made these events such a great success.  We look forward to returning to both of these communities in the future!
