PLANO, Texas-- Twenty-four 18-Under (18U) Division Teams and 16 16-Under (16U) Division teams remain in the quest for a national championship after day two of bracket play of the 2018 USA Softball GOLD Nationals in Plano, Texas. The win-or-go-home nature of the day brought the best out of the competing teams, with 23 of the day’s 46 games decided by three or less runs.

“We have a lot of seniors on this team, and I think they really stepped up because it is our last tournament”, notes coach of the Firecrackers Chase Valdez, who won 6-5 today in a tight matchup against the Oregon Titans 18. “And the younger girls, they are playing for those seniors who have given this team so much. I really do put a lot of faith in my girls. They are a great squad, and they play for each other. They play for the name on their chest and the person next to them.”

The 16-Under division started their day off with an 8 a.m. nail biter, as Extreme Elite Gold 16U scraped by Tulsa Shootout 16U Gold, 7-6. Texas Glory Blue followed with their own close game, beating KC Elite- Gutierrez 2-1, thanks to a defensive error in the bottom of the sixth by KC Elite to break up the tie ballgame. San Inferno Lovitt saw their first close game of the tournament, beating the Germantown Red Devils 2-1 to keep their perfect GOLD Nationals record.

The 18-Under Firecrackers- DFW Rosales saw their own close game today, sealing a 10-9 victory over Bombers HTX Gold- Clevenger with help from a three-run top of the sixth inning. The afternoon saw more close games, with Texas Elite GOLD Bancroft 18U narrowly beating GCB 18U 7-6 on a walkoff single. Rock Wayne-Gold started the afternoon with a shutout Texas Blaze Elite Lindsey 10-0 in the one of the day’s largest margin of victory, keeping their GOLD Nationals record clean without a loss.
