OKLAHOMA CITY ---  Northwestern pitcher/first baseman Amy Letourneau (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) went 2-0 in the circle including a no-hitter and added two home runs against Minnesota over the weekend. For her outstanding play, the sophomore has been honored with her first USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Week award the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) of America and USA Softball announced today. Letourneau went 6-for-8 from the batter’s box for a .750 average. The sophomore finished the week with a 1.500 slugging percentage and an .818 on-base percentage.

"This is such an amazing honor to be chosen for this award, especially with all of the great players around the country who have earned it already this season,” said Letourneau. “We had a great week of preparation leading up to last weekend and it really helped us perform and take the next step as a team.”

The California native started the weekend by etching her name in the Northwestern softball record books when she became the 45th pitcher in school history to record a no-hitter. Letourneau struck out 11 batters in the game on her way to the 6-2 win. She was also productive from the plate going 2-for-4 with a run scored. On Saturday, the sophomore went 3-for-3 with four RBI and a home run. Letourneau returned to the circle on Sunday to toss another complete-game victory in a 4-2 NU win. The pitcher hammered her second home run of the weekend in the first inning, this one a two-run shot.

"Amy has had great poise in big moments this season,” said Northwestern Head Coach Kate Drohan. “When we have to get an out in the circle or need that two-out RBI base hit, Amy is getting it done. She is really locked in right now."

This is the first USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Week honor for Amy. The last Northwestern player to receive the award was Tammy Williams in Week Six of the 2009 season.
