Remembering Vivian Lemasters

Jan. 03, 2018, 6:02 p.m. (ET)

We mourn the passing of Vivian Lemasters of Wichita, Kansas.  Vivian, former rink owner of the El Dorado Skating Rink, was active as a Speed Skating National Championships tabulator, for many years working alongside Boots Snead and Boot’s sister Ruth Roberts.  Those of us who knew these three ladies, will remember them fondly.

Vivian’s National Championships service began around 1969, and included officiating at the World Speed Skating Championships in Colorado Springs in 1993. Her extended family and friends were coaches, competitors and officials in the speed skating world.  She was a fun person to be around, and had a quick wit about her.

She is survived by two daughters Ruth (Danny) Fechter of El Dorado, Kansas, and Susan Lemasters of Midwest City, Oklahoma; grandchildren Tia (Jake) Underwood, Ryan (Dalton Dowdy) Lemasters, Amber (Tad) McLaren, and Danna (Scott) Lee; great-grandchildren Veronica, Vanessa and Taya Frees, Elizabeth, Daniel and Andrew McLaren, Janae, Jordan, and Jackson Lee; and great-great-grandchild Brannon Kirby; former spouse Billy Reed Lemasters and lifelong special friend Maurice Swihart. She is preceded in death by her parents, son Brian Lemasters, sister Helen Trigg and brothers Cliff and Harry Cannon.
