Asiago/Roana 2016 Gold Finals: Italians will face the Czech men and the Spanish girls

June 24, 2016, 6:25 p.m. (ET)

Today in a crowded and tricoloured Hodegart Arena, Italy won a double ticket for the Gold: The Junior Ladies team, despite of the defeat suffered against Finland (3-2), overtook Canada thanks to a better goal difference and tomorrow will face Spain. In a compelling and tough match, the Italian Senior Men won over the USA and tomorrow will meet Czech Republic: many Italian inline hockey supporters have been waiting for this re-match since the Roccaraso 2011 Worlds when Italy, for the first time in a Gold Final, played and lost against the Czechs; they surely will come to Asiago to back their players.

Senior Men Italian team won a physical match against USA. After the initial lead, US players recovered the game with Baldwin that scored the 3-3 draw. Italy closed the match with an empty net goal scored by Traversa. Czech Republic is the other finalist of the World Championship. The first semifinal ended at overtime with the Czech victory after a battled match. The French team brought the game to the extra period recovering the result after the initial Czech advantage scored by Kafka. Cik scored the sudden death goal with a strong shot from great distance.

For the other games played today, Iran ended its World tournament with a victory against Mexico (4-3 the final score). Good game for Mexican team that took the lead (2-3 at the end of the first period). An inspirated Keyhanfar scored the two decisive goals, bringing Iran to the final victory. Sweden came to the victory against a good Great Britain (5-2). Swedish players took the lead of the match since the first minutes. British team gained the draw but four goals in the second period brought the Sweden to the final victory. No surprises at all for Canada and Poland. Canada overcame Latvia with the final result of 5-3, closing the first half three goals ahead. Despite of a good second period, Latvian team must gave up to the higher technical skills of the Canadians. Easy life for Poland against Chinese Taipei (5-1 the final score). After the initial opponent advantage, Polish players recaptured the draw and closed the first period 3-1 ahead. Poland definitively won the match with other two goals in the second half. PalaHodegart afternoon closed with Switzerland-Argentina (8-5). Swiss team confirmed its attacking skills, placing three men on first places of the best scorer ranking.
